Description
Learn at your own pace how to create entire documents fully illustrated with tables, animations, and even direct links to Web pages. Or dive right into the latest Web capabilities of Word 2000. No question is too small or too big, too old or too new for The Microsoft Word 2000 Bible. All-inclusive, easy-to-use, and Web-smart, it is one of those references you just can't put away.
Computer application books tend to fall into two categories: the small, quick-paced introductory desk reference and the 1,000-page tome that attempts to answers every question you never thought to ask. Though well over 1,000 pages, the authors of Microsoft Word 2000 Bible have taken great care to anticipate and address common user issues. Although it claims to be a book for all levels of users, it is best suited for advanced users.
The first two sections of the book cover the rudimentary features of Word 2000, such as navigating the user interface and determining which document template you should be using. Parts 3 through 6, which account for over two-thirds of the book, cover a variety of the advanced topics with clarity, honesty, and insight.
For example, the authors handle complicated topics like field codes in a format that almost anyone can understand. They also conscientiously tackle subjects like master documents, making sure to acknowledge how difficult master documents can be to manage. Common problems, such as disappearing text at page ends or pictures that do not display fully (or at all) are easily explained throughout the text.
If you want to buy one book that will help you make the most of your time using Word 2000, consider Microsoft Word 2000 Bible. Use it both as a quick reference for forgotten shortcuts or as a tutorial to learn a new feature such as integrating Word 2000 documents with other Office 2000 applications. --Rob Frankland

Summary: "Don't Try This At Home"
I know a good deal about computers and Word. Yet I found this book to be very complicated almost as though it was written by programmers rather than teachers. It would make a good adjunct to classroom instruction but should not be counted upon for teaching oneself at home. Word is exasperating enough in its own right; I found this book just added to my frustrations.

I have been using this book for 9 months. It is a comprehensive source on word features and I have found answers to all of my word questions..... didn't always like the answer but it was correct !

Summary: "Good Book, but . . . . ."
I thought this was a very decent book. It covers all of the things that you will find in the other books, but not what I was really looking for. . . I am most anticipating a Word book by the author of "Anatomy of a Macro Virus" as it appeared in the MOD magazine. His name is "driza" (pretty sure), but I'm not 100%. This book was somewhat helpful, but not really on the edge. It seems as if all the Word books lately are pretty much the same - run the macro recorder and talk about the code. What I really want is a book that TEACHES me something that I don't know.
There are too many office users writing books and not enough programmers - that's why I'm looking forward to the Document Automation thing by driza.
